SOCIAL IMPACT

cause/affect awards competition

AIGA SF presents, cause/affect, a biennial graphic design competition which celebrates the work of designers and organizations who set out to positively impact our society and communities.

All work entered in the competition must promote or support social good and actively engage in enriching our lives. It can raise awareness about a cause or condition. It can celebrate an arts institution or event. All we ask is that it doesn’t contribute directly to the profit of a commercial organization.

This is a competition for do-gooders, who do good work. And it is open to all. Entry deadline: 11.9.07

Mission

The Social Impact initiative has a mission to collectively encourage the creative professional community, including the employees of our corporate partners, to develop the practice of socially responsible design.

The question we ask of ourselves, and each other, is simple: How can we, as designers, make a difference in our community?

What will we do? We will create a culture of networking and collaborating with like-minded organizations that value the efficacy of service to the overall community. We will foster closer working relationships between designers and the non-profit community. And we will provide guidance, leadership and resources to the design community and encourage corporations and individuals to follow best practices with regard to socially responsible design.

What are the responsibilities of the committee? It is expected that the Social Impact committee will meet in person or by conference call once per month, or as necessary to make progress on any proposed initiatives. These initiatives will include:
• Developing and maintaining formal partnerships with the Taproot Foundation and other like-minded organizations
• Creating a pro-bono/social impact resource page on AIGASF website
• Leading AIGASF efforts on social impact advocacy and making suggestions to AIGA National

Our inspired committee is geared up to make a difference.
